One week into Classic WoW's launch, Twitch and Reddit have some notable stats on the game's popularity! A 15 year old game is absolutely dominating Twitch, has its own subreddit that is in the Top 10 for most comments on all of Reddit, and is overloading Blizzard's servers.
Twitch Viewership
Reddit
Taking a look at Twitchtracker.com, you can see that World of Warcraft is leading nearly every metric for the last week, since Classic WoW's launch. Over 284,000 average viewers are watching WoW, which is 20% of viewership on Twitch! WoW has also just dethroned Fortnite for highest average number of live streams, at over 6,000 channels! Fortnite has been one of the highest average number of streams for quite some time. And for the most insane statistic, WoW has accrued over 48 million hours watched on Twitch, which is almost unbelievable.

#WoWClassic generated 47.1M hours watched in its first week--more than any other game in a single week in the last two years.

Subreddit for Classic WoW
The Subreddit for Classic WoW, r/ClassicWoW, has also recently surpassed 300,000 subscribers and is one of the fastest growing communities on Reddit. Since Classic WoW's launch, r/ClassicWoW has ranked in the top 10 for most comments across Reddit, which is quite impressive.
Through the month of August, the r/ClassicWoW subreddit gained a total of 130,000 new subscribers, which averages at about 4,100 subscripers per day. That is more people subscribing to the r/ClassicWoW subreddit per day than an entire realm could hold when Vanilla launched. They've also received over 4,000,000 unique visitors to the subreddit just in August alone.
Jam-Packed Classic Realms
The Realms in Classic WoW are overloaded, as we cover on the front page regularly, Queue times can be upwards of 6 hours long. Thankfully Blizzard is taking action, opening up the opportunity for free realm transfers 'very soon'.
The most common thing players are saying about Classic WoW's success is of course referring back to the J. Allen Brack comment back at Blizzcon 2013. During the Developer Q&A session, a hooded World of Warcraft fan (an absolute HERO) asked the following, 'Have you ever thought about adding expansions for previous servers as they were then?' To which J, Allen Brack responded with, 'No. You don't want to do that either. You think you do, but you don't.'

'You think you do, but you don't' is pretty much a meme within the Classic WoW community and you can be sure Blizzard and J. Allen Brack were surprised by the massive number of players and interest in World of Warcraft Classic! Whether you are a fan of Classic or Retail, this could end up being a pivotal moment in WoW's history and could potentially lead to a massive surge in subscriptions. If that were the case, the future of WoW could be brighter than ever.Get Wowhead Premium
